The lasso is a great little tool to select precise areas of an image with precise cuts by drawing or tracing the selection outline. There are three lasso tools available. Most commonly used is the second selection Polygonal.
This one is a real pain in the ass to use. It’s freehand so you get my
point. To use this click and hold your left mouse button on the image and draw around the edges of the selection. Do not suggest this for people using a mouse. Best to use with a pen too. This selection is better when you want to get a really quick selection of something. Otherwise it’s just a real pain.
This is a freehand selection tool. Click and hold your left mouse button on the image and draw your selection.
Polygonal Lasso Tool
Best of the 3. it is similar to the Lasso tool except instead of holding your mouse button down while drawig, you click various points instead.
You can also hold down the Alt key (Windows) or Option key (Mac OS) to draw freehand sections.
Magnetic Lasso Tool
Not a big fan of this tool only really necessary when selecting areas that have reasonably well-defines edges Also helps if there are not too many jagged edges or complex edges best is the edges are straight or simple rounded curves. It’s fairly easy as it does all the work for you. Click one part of the edge and just drage your move. The points will be automated, like an auto trace.
“Fastening points” are automatically made at various points along the edges. Left-click at any time to add a fastening point manually.
